| DONALD HAMILTON FRASER RA Donald Hamilton Fraser is a widely known and accomplished painter dramatising his subjects with bold colours and a confident brush and his work employs a language of visual metaphor in which abstract and descriptive elements combine to express a heightened experience of landscape and still life. His emphasis upon colour and surface texture reflects the traditional affinity between Scottish and French painting. His own early contacts with the post-war Ecole de Paris confirmed this affinity for him, providing perhaps the most significant, formative influence in the development of his work. Of Scottish descent, Donald Hamilton Fraser was born in 1929 in London. He studied painting at St. Martin's School of Art and in Paris with a French Government Scholarship. He was visiting tutor at the Royal College of Art for twenty-five years and is now an Honorary Fellow of the RCA. He is a Royal Academician and has exhibited there since 1975. He is Vice-President of the Artists' General Benevolent Institution. He is a Commissioner of the Royal Fine Art Commission. Vice-President of the Royal Overseas League. He has written in various periodicals on painting and on ballet; in 1968 he published a book on Paul Gauguin, "Vision after the Sermon"; in 1989 "Dancers" a book on his ballet paintings was published. He has held many one-man exhibitions, notably at Paul Rosenberg in New York; Gimpel Fils in London; Bohun Gallery, Henley-on-Thames; Flying Colours, Edinburgh; CCA in London, New York & Japan. He has also participated in numerous mixed exhibitions throughout Europe and North America.
